Media Opportunities at Australian Parliament House
150 young Australians from across the country will gather at Australian Parliament House from 17-19 August 2026 to participate in the National Youth Parliament (NYP), a civic education program that provides young people aged 16 to 18 with a hands-on experience of Australia’s federal parliamentary system, including the process by which bills are drafted, debated and passed into law.
Youth Members for the National Youth Parliament 2026 announced
Today the Department of the House of Representatives and Y Australia are pleased to announce that 150 participants for the National Youth Parliament 2026 have been selected From 16-20 August 2026, 150 secondary school students – who will each represent one of Australia’s federal electorates – will come together for simulated parliamentary debates.
National Youth Parliament to empower future leaders
The Department of the House of Representatives and the Y Australia are pleased to announce Expressions of Interest are officially open for the National Youth Parliament 2026. Through this program, young people from all walks of life will engage directly with civics and the Parliament.
National Youth Parliament official launch – Monday 25 August 2025
The National Youth Parliament will be officially launched by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Honourable Milton Dick MP, on Monday 25 August 2025, when applications will open to all young people who will be aged 16–17 and living in Australia in August 2025.
National Youth Parliament 2026 – Delivery Partner Announced
The Department of the House of Representatives is pleased to announce that following a competitive open tender process, Y Australia has been selected as the delivery partner for the National Youth Parliament to be held in Canberra in August 2026.
